Check the academic route and clinical placement commitments

The standard entry route requires both a 75% combined average and the individual subject minimums below. From 2027/28, SAIT also accepts a completed Pre-Health Sciences route with specific grades. Clinical placements may require travel or relocation and irregular shifts; a preferred location is not guaranteed. These conditions belong in the decision alongside the tuition estimate.

Three semesters in each year do not make this a three-year diploma. The published 2026/27 estimate and the dated 2027/28 entry alternative refer to different things.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Check the academic route

SAIT assesses the documents and course equivalents for education completed outside Canada. Demonstrating English proficiency does not by itself establish that your academic subjects meet the program requirements.

Check the complete admission requirements ↗
  1. Standard academic route

A combined average of at least 75% across the four required subjects, with at least 70% in Math 30-1 OR 75% in Math 30-2; at least 70% in English Language Arts 30-1; at least 70% in Chemistry 30; AND at least 70% in Biology 30, or accepted equivalents. English Language Arts 30-2 is not listed.

  2. Pre-Health alternative from 2027/28

Complete SAIT Pre-Health Sciences with a program GPA of at least 3.0 AND at least B− in each of ANPH 206, ANPH 207, CHEM 229, COMM 269 and MATH 269. Both the overall GPA and every listed course grade apply.

  3. Language and entrance assessment

English proficiency and at least 50% in the school’s entrance testing process remain additional requirements. Education completed outside Canada requires the stated international document assessment. The PSEA policy explicitly includes Medical Laboratory Technology; a CASPer requirement is not established by its program list.

English proficiency is a separate requirement

Assessment results must be from within the year before your application. A transfer or deferral can require updated results when that period has passed.

THE STUDY STRUCTURE

Clinical courses are included in the required total

The diploma has 31 required courses totalling 88.5 credits. Six PRAC courses account for 25.5 of those credits, including specimen collection and five clinical disciplines. They are part of the 31, rather than six additional courses. Some clinical courses run alongside later microbiology, clinical chemistry and hematology study. General progression and graduation require a minimum 2.0 GPA.

PREPARING FOR THE PROGRAM

Confirm the program checklist before paying for preparation

  • Follow the program’s Practicum Readiness package for consent, immunization records and a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. The linked checklist uses the label Medical Laboratory Technician rather than Technology, so confirm its exact row before arranging CPR, First Aid or N95 fit testing.
  • SAIT lists Verified at approximately $50–$100 and CompTracker at $150–$200. The CompTracker estimate is not labelled per semester or per year. Possible immunization expenses start at $85; that is not a fixed charge for every student.
  • Placement preferences are not guaranteed. Travel, relocation and irregular shifts can affect costs and availability. Seek any approved accommodation through the formal process rather than assuming a preferred placement.
  • The college’s approximate $1,000–$1,500 certification-exam estimate is separate from tuition. Confirm current examination and registration requirements with the relevant body before budgeting for professional practice.
