The essentials

Your SIM setup checklist

  1. Order accurately

Provide the right travel date and complete the requested verification.

  2. Install as instructed

Receiving a QR code and adding a profile are separate from service.

  3. Test after landing

Check data, calls, and texts separately on the Canadian line.

Arrange your Canadian SIM before arrival by ordering with the correct travel date and following the setup instructions for your plan. CanadianSIM schedules its pre-arrival service around that date. Ordering, receiving the QR code, installing the eSIM, and connecting to a Canadian network are separate steps.

Your activation timeline

When Your action What to expect
Before ordering Check your phone, SIM format, trip length, and arrival date. You know whether email delivery or a physical SIM will work for you.
When ordering Choose the plan and delivery method, enter travel details, and complete the requested verification. An order confirmation with the next steps. Payment alone does not complete every setup requirement.
Before departure Watch the email address used for the order and check the supplied installation timing. Current Rogers and Fido plan pages schedule the eSIM email for 24 hours before the selected arrival date.
When instructed to install Use a reliable Wi-Fi connection and the QR code supplied for your line. The eSIM profile is added to the phone. Installation does not prove the line has service at your present location.
After landing Enable the Canadian line, choose it for mobile data, and test calls, texts, and browsing. Your phone connects when the plan is active and compatible network service is available.

For prepaid, use the timing in the prepaid order email. Its product page describes QR delivery around your arrival date and allows installation before travel or after landing. Do not assume that every provider starts a plan when you scan its code: validity and activation rules belong to the specific plan.

The checks that prevent most setup problems

First, check your exact phone model and where it was purchased. The handset must support the selected SIM format and the carrier’s service, and it must be unlocked for another provider. Finding an eSIM menu is useful, but it does not establish all three conditions.

Next, choose a plan that covers your stay and the features you need. The current CanadianSIM prepaid offers do not include hotspot or US roaming. The current monthly Rogers and Fido offers differ on hotspot, so check the details before treating the two plans as interchangeable.

Finally, make sure you can access the order email and your account while travelling. Save the instructions locally, keep the QR code private, and leave time to ask support about anything unclear before your flight.

Install the eSIM using the supplied method

Follow the QR-code instructions sent with your order. On iPhone, Apple supports QR-code setup through the camera or the Add eSIM flow. Samsung Galaxy devices use the SIM manager under Connections for supported eSIM setup. Pixel menus and supported SIM combinations vary by model.

Use the relevant manufacturer’s current guide if a menu differs: Apple eSIM setup, Samsung eSIM instructions, or Google Pixel SIM settings. The carrier’s instructions still determine which supplied code and service details to use.

If your phone reports that the code has already been used or the plan cannot be added, contact support before deleting a working profile or repeatedly scanning the code. Save the exact error message so the team can identify the problem.

If you chose a physical SIM

Physical delivery and activation are separate. You still need the card before you can use it. For airport pickup, follow the collection instructions and insert the card into your unlocked phone after receiving it.

CanadianSIM currently lists six pickup airports: Toronto Pearson, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, and Winnipeg. Check the location for your terminal and arrival time. If your airport is not supported, arrange eSIM or eligible delivery before the trip. See the airport collection guide.

When you land: a short connection check

  1. Confirm that the Canadian SIM or eSIM is enabled in phone settings.
  2. Choose the Canadian line for mobile data and the appropriate line for outgoing calls.
  3. Review the home line’s roaming settings before using it in Canada.
  4. Test a web page, a regular call, and a text separately. Each checks a different part of the service.
  5. If something fails, connect to Wi-Fi and contact CanadianSIM with your order number, phone model, and error details.

A phone showing the eSIM in settings has installed a profile; it has not necessarily completed network registration. Likewise, a number issued before travel does not guarantee that the Canadian line will receive calls or texts overseas.

Activation questions

What if my flight changes?

Update the arrival date in your CanadianSIM account where available and contact support if the change is close to activation. Do this promptly rather than assuming the original schedule will adjust automatically.

Can I install while I am still at home?

Follow the instructions for your order. Installing the profile before departure can be different from enabling service or beginning the validity period.

What if the QR email has not arrived?

Check the order email address, spam folder, travel date, and any outstanding verification request. If it is past the timing in your confirmation, contact CanadianSIM with the order reference.
