In this guide
For a short Canadian visit, start by comparing prepaid. For a longer move, compare monthly newcomer plans as well. The useful differences are the service period, total cost, included features, and signup requirements. A newcomer does not automatically have to choose prepaid: CanadianSIM advertises specific pre-arrival Rogers and Fido offers without a credit check.
What prepaid and postpaid mean
With prepaid, you pay for an allowance or service period in advance. With postpaid, you have an ongoing account and receive carrier bills under that plan’s terms. Paying something at checkout does not, by itself, make a monthly plan prepaid.
For CanadianSIM’s Rogers and Fido monthly offers, the plan payment taken at checkout is a deposit credited to your first carrier bill. You still have an ongoing monthly service. That is different from buying a 30-day or 90-day prepaid travel package.
Also separate the billing model from a fixed-term commitment. A monthly SIM-only offer can have no fixed term. “No fixed-term contract” does not mean that there are no service terms, bills, or cancellation steps.
Compare the current CanadianSIM options
| Option | Current price and data | Useful when | Important limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30-day prepaid | CA$40 for 95 GB over 30 days | You are visiting and want one defined service period | No hotspot or US roaming |
| 90-day prepaid | CA$75 for 75 GB over 90 days | You need a longer prepaid period with a known end date | The 75 GB covers the entire period; no hotspot |
| Fido monthly newcomer plan | CA$35/month for 75 GB | You are staying longer and want the lower-priced monthly option | The current offer does not include hotspot |
| Rogers monthly newcomer plan | CA$40/month for 100 GB | You are staying longer and need hotspot or more high-speed data | Monthly billing continues until cancellation; check all plan terms |
Monthly prices are before tax. Confirm the final checkout total, eligibility, and current inclusions for every option. CanadianSIM routes stays under 90 days toward prepaid and longer stays toward its newcomer offers; at the boundary, compare the actual dates and how you will use the line.
The data figures need careful reading. The prepaid 90-day package is not 75 GB per month. The 30-day package has a larger allowance over a shorter period. A lower average cost per day may be poor value if the data or feature limits do not suit you.
No Canadian credit history? Check the offer, not the label
Some standard monthly carrier signups involve credit checks. That does not mean every monthly offer is unavailable to a newcomer. CanadianSIM’s current pre-arrival offer specifically advertises no credit check and no Canadian address requirement.
Prepaid is another route that does not depend on a monthly credit account. Either way, you still need to complete the provider’s payment, eligibility, and verification process. Do not confuse “no credit check” with “no information required,” or with guaranteed approval for handset financing.

Choose the features you will use
All four current options include a Canadian number and calls within Canada. Their other allowances differ. The current 30-day prepaid plan includes calls to the USA; the 90-day prepaid plan does not list that inclusion. The monthly Rogers and Fido offers list 1,000 long-distance minutes to India, Bangladesh, Mexico, and the UK.
Calling a country from Canada is different from roaming there. Do not buy a Canada-only plan expecting it to work on a US side trip. If you need a laptop connection, check hotspot explicitly: it is included in the current Rogers offer, not in the current Fido or prepaid offers.
What happens when you leave Canada?
For prepaid, check the package’s end date and the steps required if you want to continue service. Do not assume that an allowance renews for free or that a number remains reserved indefinitely after the service becomes inactive.
For a monthly account, arrange cancellation with the carrier when you no longer need the line. Removing the SIM, deleting an eSIM profile, or flying home does not itself cancel the account. Review the final bill and keep the cancellation confirmation.
If your visit may become a longer stay, keep your account details and ask about the available continuation or transfer process before the current service expires. Avoid letting a number lapse if important accounts depend on it.
Questions about prepaid and postpaid
Which is cheaper for two weeks?
Compare the full amount you must pay for a plan that covers the trip. A 30-day prepaid package can suit a two-week visit even though some days are unused. Read the two-week eSIM guide for the practical checks.
Is every postpaid plan a two-year contract?
No. The billing model and the length of a commitment are separate. Check the SIM-only service terms and any separate device agreement.
Does a bigger data allowance include hotspot?
No. Data quantity and tethering permission are separate features. Check both before buying.
