The essentials

What to know first

  1. Dates

Cover the full trip, including any travel outside Canada.

  2. Features

Check calls, hotspot and roaming separately.

  3. Delivery

Confirm eSIM, physical SIM or pickup for the actual order.

For a tourist trip to Canada, choose service for the full visit and the features you will actually use. A prepaid eSIM can be convenient if your phone supports it. A physical SIM can be appropriate for another supported device, but delivery or collection arrangements must be checked before travel.

Start with the trip, not the provider name

  • Write down the arrival and departure dates.
  • List every country where you need mobile service.
  • Decide whether you need native calls, SMS or a Canadian number.
  • Include laptop hotspot use if it matters.
  • Check the phone’s exact model, original sales market and carrier lock.

Compare the current prepaid options

Public prepaid offers checked October 16, 2026
CanadianSIM package Data and validity Calling and practical limits
CAD40, before tax 20 GB for 30 days Canadian number, Canada calling and international SMS; no hotspot or US roaming.
CAD55, before tax 90 GB for 30 days Canadian number, Canada/USA calling from Canada and international SMS; no hotspot or US roaming.

Use CanadianSIM prepaid plans for current availability and terms. Both current packages have a 30-day validity; the larger allowance does not make a longer trip automatically covered. Check reactivation or the next suitable package if you stay beyond the purchased period.

Choose eSIM, physical SIM or collection deliberately

An eSIM avoids inserting a physical card, but requires the supported phone and carrier setup. If you need a physical SIM, check the available offer and delivery route with the seller. Do not assume that a prepaid eSIM purchase creates a physical-SIM airport collection order.

CanadianSIM lists physical-SIM collection at six airports for eligible arrangements. Use the airport collection guide and your confirmation to verify the correct airport, terminal and pickup instructions. For postal delivery, check the destination, lead time and charge shown for the order rather than relying on an old free-delivery claim.

For a two-week visit or road trip

A two-week trip can fit within a 30-day package, but unused days do not determine whether the data and features are right. Read the two-week guide for the planning questions. If you are driving outside cities, use provider coverage information for the route and keep offline maps; no nationwide label guarantees signal at every stop.

For a trip that enters the USA, read calling versus roaming. For a working holiday that needs laptop data, check hotspot restrictions before paying. Compare other suitable travel products if a CanadianSIM package does not meet those requirements.

Prepare before departure

Use the phone checker and save the arrival checklist. Keep the order confirmation and installation details available offline. Follow the activation schedule for the order and tell the provider if travel dates change. On arrival, test the purchased services and keep a way to contact support.

Questions before you buy

Is a monthly plan always better value for a tourist?

No. Compare eligibility, total billing and features. CanadianSIM presents its monthly offers for qualifying stays of 90 days or more.

Can I use the 90 GB prepaid package in the USA?

No. Its US calling allowance applies from Canada; it excludes US roaming.

Is a physical SIM a workaround for a locked phone?

No. Both SIM formats require appropriate carrier access and device support.
