Galaxy S23 in Canada: eSIM and version checks
Check Galaxy S23, Plus, Ultra and FE eSIM support, regional versions, carrier unlock and the steps to confirm Canadian service.
The essentials
What to know first
- Four models
Check the exact S23, Plus, Ultra or FE version.
- Regional caveat
Samsung’s listing does not guarantee every country version.
- Calling support
Ask the carrier about the exact model code before ordering.
In this guide
Samsung lists the Galaxy S23, S23+, S23 Ultra and S23 FE among its eSIM-supported devices, but warns that support can vary by country of origin. Check your exact handset before ordering a Canadian eSIM. A model-family name alone cannot settle the regional or carrier question.
Check every version in the family
| Model on the phone | Manufacturer listing | What still needs checking |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S23 | Listed for eSIM | Original market, Add eSIM menu, carrier unlock and Canadian calling. |
| Galaxy S23+ | Listed for eSIM | Exact model code and the intended Canadian carrier. |
| Galaxy S23 Ultra | Listed for eSIM | Regional version; Ultra does not remove the regional caveat. |
| Galaxy S23 FE | Listed separately for eSIM | Select FE, not the standard model, when checking support. |

Use the original market and model code
| Your situation | Useful evidence | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Bought from a Canadian carrier | Original receipt and exact model code | Confirm the phone is unlocked and accepted by the new carrier. |
| Bought abroad | Country of first sale and full model code | Ask Samsung or the intended carrier about that version. |
| Used, refurbished or imported | Seller’s original-market information | Do not substitute the seller’s current country for the phone’s origin. |
| Original market unknown | About phone screen and SIM manager | Use the checker’s unknown-market route and resolve the uncertainty. |
Find the relevant settings
- Open Settings → About phone and note the full model number. Keep any IMEI private; share it only through the carrier’s secure support process if requested.
- Open Settings → Connections → SIM manager and look for Add eSIM. Menu wording can vary with software.
- Ask the original carrier about SIM unlock if it is uncertain. A screen passcode and a carrier lock are different.
- Ask your intended Canadian provider to check calling support for the model code, including voice over LTE.
Bringing a second-hand Galaxy S23
For a used phone, ask about its original market before treating it as a Canadian version. Keep the model code with your travel notes so you can ask a precise support question. If Add eSIM is absent, do not buy a QR-code package on the promise that every S23 will show the same menu after an update.
A physical nano-SIM may be an alternative if your exact version has a suitable tray and the provider supports it. Confirm that route separately; it cannot remove a carrier lock or supply missing network support.
After the device checks
Use the optional CanadianSIM phone checker to organize the SIM-format checks. It does not replace a carrier’s decision about service. Rogers: device and calling compatibility explains why imported phones can need a separate calling-compatibility check.
Once support is confirmed, compare prepaid service for a short visit with monthly service for qualifying longer stays. Select your data line deliberately, follow the activation schedule in the order, and review home-line roaming before departure.
Questions before you buy
Does every imported Galaxy S23 support eSIM?
No. Samsung explicitly retains a country-of-origin caveat, even for listed model families.
Is the Add eSIM menu a guarantee of Canadian calls?
No. It helps identify SIM support; carrier acceptance, unlock and calling support remain separate.
