BEFORE YOU CHOOSE

Check prior training and both entrance assessments

The top notice calls an Emergency Medical Responder course mandatory, while the detailed admission section also lists medical-sciences qualifications and specific equivalents. Have SAIT determine which route applies to your background. Primary Care Paramedic is explicitly named in both the PSEA and CASPer policies; requirements for Advanced Care Paramedic should not be substituted.

Books and supplies are approximately $4,000 for the program. Budget separately for the required uniform, safety glasses, black steel-toed duty boots and a suitable device; SAIT recommends an Apple tablet for its applications. CompTracker is $75 per semester, and Verified is approximately $50–$100. Ballistic vests are optional.

Applying to this program

For Fall 2027, apply and wait for SAIT's confirmation that you meet academic requirements before booking either entrance assessment. The captured Winter 2027 test and application deadlines have already passed as of October 29, 2026; the Fall test deadlines are marked TBA. The $175 international application amount comes from the separate admitted SAIT policy.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Check the academic route

SAIT assesses the documents and course equivalents for education completed outside Canada. Demonstrating English proficiency does not by itself establish that your academic subjects meet the program requirements.

Check the complete admission requirements ↗
  1. School subjects

At least 50% in each of Math 20-1 or 20-2, English Language Arts 30-1 or 30-2, and Biology 30 or Science 30, or accepted equivalents. SAIT ANPH 209 is accepted in place of Biology 30 or Science 30.

  2. Prior qualification

An EMR certificate or a medical-sciences-related diploma, degree or equivalent. The detailed alternatives are an LPN with at least one year of experience; an MFR or FMR with ITLS provider certification; an RN with at least one year of experience; or a licensed physician with at least one year of experience. Confirm how this section and the mandatory EMR notice apply to you.

  3. Testing and age

Achieve at least 50% in the program's entrance testing process. PSEA and CASPer both apply. Applicants must be at least 18 when the second semester begins. English proficiency and assessment of education outside Canada are additional requirements.

English proficiency is a separate requirement

Assessment results must be from within the year before your application. A transfer or deferral can require updated results when that period has passed.

THE STUDY STRUCTURE

Include both the clinical and ambulance practicums

The 34.5-credit certificate has 15 required courses across three semesters. PRAC 242 clinical practice and PRAC 252 ambulance practice are included in that total. Ambulance placement can extend beyond the third semester, depending on site availability. Fall study is mainly on campus; the Winter route combines online theory with campus labs. Graduation does not itself confer professional registration.

PREPARING FOR THE PROGRAM

Make room for clinical requirements and placement travel

  • The clinical checklist requires consent, immunization records, a Police Information Check, CPR and N95 fit testing; Standard First Aid is marked not applicable. Follow current instructions before obtaining documents.
  • Placements may require travel or relocation outside Calgary or Alberta. The program describes mask-seal and fitness requirements alongside a formal approved-accommodation exception; ask SAIT and Accessibility Services for an individual determination.
  • PSEA permits one attempt per program intake, with no transfer of a score between programs. CASPer permits one accepted result per program application and one sitting in the academic year; distribution to additional programs has its own fee.
  • Professional examinations, registration and renewal costs are separate from tuition. Check current regulator requirements rather than treating the college's dated estimates as a current licence quote.
