Health Information ManagementSAIT
Health Information Management combines health-data study with two required placements. Its fee table reflects a mix of full-time and part-time study, and placements can bring travel or relocation expenses.

Budget around both placements
SAIT considers placement preferences, but they do not guarantee a location. Plan for possible travel or relocation and follow this program's own document checklist. It requires consent, immunization records and a Police Information Check; the central table marks CPR, First Aid and N95 documentation as not applicable for HIM.

Books and supplies are approximately $1,000–$1,500 per full-time year. An Apple or Windows laptop is preferred; tablets and phones are unsuitable. Allow separately for document verification, police checks, immunization-related expenses and any placement relocation.
Read the HIM placement checklist before arranging documents. The central policy's timing instructions apply to the checks that this program actually requires.
Read the application payment guide ↗Check the academic route
SAIT assesses the documents and course equivalents for education completed outside Canada. Demonstrating English proficiency does not by itself establish that your academic subjects meet the program requirements.
Check the complete admission requirements ↗-
Current academic route
At least 60% in Math 30-1 or 30-2, English Language Arts 30-1 or 30-2, and Biology 30, or accepted equivalents.
-
Alternative from 2027/28
From the 2027/28 academic year, meet the current academic route or complete SAIT Pre-Health Sciences. The update does not state an additional course-specific grade for this alternative.
-
English and document assessment
English proficiency remains required, and applicants educated outside Canada need an international document assessment. The new academic alternative does not change the year of the published 2026/27 cost estimate.
English proficiency is a separate requirement
Assessment results must be from within the year before your application. A transfer or deferral can require updated results when that period has passed.

- A post-secondary English courseA credit course in English, comparative literature, communications or an equivalent at SAIT or a recognized post-secondary institution requires at least a C.
- English Language FoundationsThe SAIT route requires both COMN 155 and SPCH 155. Other recognized pathways have their own levels and assessment conditions; check the complete policy before choosing one.
Two years of study with two placements
Complete 61.5 credits across 25 courses. The course schedule describes three semesters in each year. Graduates are eligible to write the CCHIM national examination; the CHIM designation is not awarded automatically with the diploma.
Read courses and prerequisites ↗Use the HIM placement checklist
- Consent, immunization records and a Police Information Check are required. CPR, Standard First Aid and N95 documentation are marked not applicable in the program's central table row.
- Follow the readiness email before arranging your police check. Required records and strongly recommended vaccination have different purposes; use the college's instructions for your circumstances.
- Placements may require relocation at short notice. The central policy describes possible notice of two weeks and warns that declining or being removed from a placement can affect completion or continuation in the program.
