BEFORE YOU CHOOSE

Have SAIT confirm your prior qualification route

The formal admission section lists a Primary Care Paramedic or Emergency Medical Technician certificate. A separate mandatory banner lists completion of Emergency Medical Responder and Primary Care Paramedic, or equivalent programs. These statements do not establish one resolved route for every applicant; ask SAIT how they apply to your qualifications.

Preparing to study

Books, uniforms and supplies are approximately $5,500 per full-time year, so do not add the uniform again to that allowance. Uniform and PPE requirements must be met before orientation. SAIT recommends an Apple tablet and identifies application-support requirements. CompTracker is separately quoted at $75 per semester.

Applying to this program

Resolve the prior-qualification discrepancy before relying on a specific entry route. Ask the program about readiness and any accommodation or placement questions; this guide cannot determine an individual's clinical eligibility.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Check the academic route

SAIT assesses the documents and course equivalents for education completed outside Canada. Demonstrating English proficiency does not by itself establish that your academic subjects meet the program requirements.

Check the complete admission requirements ↗
  1. Formal admission block

Completion of a Primary Care Paramedic certificate or an Emergency Medical Technician certificate, or accepted equivalents, alongside English proficiency.

  2. Separate mandatory banner

The banner lists Emergency Medical Responder and Primary Care Paramedic programs, or equivalents. Retain both source statements and obtain a program-specific assessment rather than assuming either resolves the other.

  3. Foreign qualification review

Education completed outside Canada requires an international document assessment. The PSEA and CASPer lists naming Primary Care Paramedic do not by themselves establish those requirements for this Advanced Care program.

English proficiency is a separate requirement

Assessment results must be from within the year before your application. A transfer or deferral can require updated results when that period has passed.

THE STUDY STRUCTURE

Campus and blended study followed by clinical experience

Complete 60 credits across 23 required courses, with three semesters in year one and two in year two. Fall delivery is primarily on campus; Winter uses blended theory and campus laboratories. Both are full-time. Practicums may require travel or relocation outside Calgary or Alberta. Professional registration and any employment driving-licence conditions remain separate from earning the diploma.

PREPARING FOR THE PROGRAM

Clinical readiness before placement

  • The central practicum table requires consent, immunization records, a Police Information Check, CPR and N95 mask-fit documentation. Standard First Aid is marked not applicable for this program. Follow the emailed timing instructions before arranging police checks or CPR documents.
  • Mask-fit testing is required. Direct questions about physical requirements, mask fitting or accommodation to SAIT through its formal assessment process rather than treating a general webpage as a decision about an individual.
  • A ballistic vest is not required. An employer-issued vest cannot replace the SAIT uniform, and a personal vest has separate consistent-use conditions. Check the program's clothing instructions before buying equipment.
