Keep the optional work term separate from required study
The 15-week work term between semesters two and three is voluntary and carries zero credits. It does not become a required twentieth course. SAIT also describes possible year-two advanced standing for recent Diesel Equipment Technician graduates, but that route depends on seat availability and an individual assessment.

SAIT assesses the documents and course equivalents for education completed outside Canada. Demonstrating English proficiency does not by itself establish that your academic subjects meet the program requirements.
Check the complete admission requirements ↗-
Math
At least 50% in Math 20-1 or Math 20-2, OR at least 60% in Math 20-3, or accepted equivalents. The Math 20-3 threshold differs from Automotive Service Technology.
-
English and science
At least 50% in English Language Arts 30-1 or 30-2 AND at least 50% in one Grade 11 science, or accepted equivalents.
-
Language and prior certificate
English proficiency and assessment of foreign education apply. Graduates of SAIT's Diesel Equipment Technician certificate within the past five years may receive year-two advanced standing, depending on seats; it is not automatic admission or a confirmed remaining-year price.
English proficiency is a separate requirement
Assessment results must be from within the year before your application. A transfer or deferral can require updated results when that period has passed.

- Education in EnglishOfficial transcripts or a completed international assessment must verify at least three years of full-time secondary study in English at 12 or more hours a week, or at least two years of study taught in English at a recognized post-secondary institution, or a recognized English-taught credential from a SAIT-approved institution.
- A post-secondary English courseA credit course in English, comparative literature, communications or an equivalent at SAIT or a recognized post-secondary institution requires at least a C.
- English Language FoundationsThe SAIT route requires both COMN 155 and SPCH 155. Other recognized pathways have their own levels and assessment conditions; check the complete policy before choosing one.
Nineteen required courses plus an optional work term
The required rows total 60 credits. The optional CPWK 252 work term adds zero credits and can make the first year two or three semesters; year two has two semesters. Later heavy-duty courses have both prerequisite and concurrent requirements, including HDMC 302 after 224 and 229 while taking 300. Technical-exam alignment does not itself complete apprenticeship or workplace-hour obligations.
